Ford is recalling more than 20,000 SUVs due to the possibility of battery failure.
The 2020 to 2024 Ford Escape and the 2021 to 2024 Lincoln Corsair may have a manufacturing defect in high-voltage battery cells that can lead to an internal short and risk of fire, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice.
Affected vehicles have 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid electric engines.
Ford indicated in recall documents that it was unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Dealers will update battery energy control module software and replace the battery pack in the compact crossovers, according to the notice.
Ford is scheduled to mail recall notices to owners on Jan. 20.
