General Motors new-vehicle sales were up 21% year-over-year in the third quarter, and its year-to-date sales are up 19% as it grew deliveries across its lineup and avoided early impact from the Detroit union strike despite its being a target.

Its surge obviously came as the industry started its post-pandemic recovery from supply chain constraints, and the Detroit automaker cited strong pickup and new sports-utility vehicle sales as the leads in the improvement, along with what it said was an industry best in fleet sales.

GM said it delivered more than 674,000 total units in the quarter, despite “relatively flat” incentives.

“Our strong results this year, whether you’re measuring sales leadership, market share growth, conquest sales or pricing, show the power of having well-designed and engineered new trucks and SUVs for everyone,” said Rory Harvey, GM executive vice president and president, North America, in a statement on the numbers.

GM’s electric-vehicle sales were also up, 28% quarter-over-quarter, its Bolt deliveries so far this year more than 2022 as a whole, and its Cadillac Lyric sales up 124% quarter-over-quarter.
