August saw Toyota Motor produce a record-breaking 798,771 vehicles, a 4% increase year-over-year, the Japanese automaker said.

Domestic production for the top automaker increased by 22%, balancing out a 2% decrease in overseas production and showcasing its rebound from semiconductor and supply chain issues last year, Reuters reported.

Even a malfunction in late August that shut down all of the automaker’s assembly plants for a day had little impact on production, according to its August numbers.

Toyota's production in India surged 321% to over 32,000 vehicles, aided by its alliance with Suzuki Motor. Reuters reported that the automaker plans to construct a third plant in the country.

Its global sales hit a record 853,285 vehicles in August, including Toyota's Lexus luxury brand, up 9.8%, according to the company.

China sales tell a different story, sales there dipping about 7%. By contrast, U.S. sales rose 15%, while its domestic sales soared by 46%.

The automaker reported selling 11,880 battery-powered vehicles worldwide. Overseas markets accounted for nearly all of its 65,000 battery EVs sold in the first eight months of the year, Reuters reported.
