Nine North Carolina car dealerships recently traded hands across the state line to Charleston, S.C.’s Hudson Automotive Group, Automotive News reported.

Asbury Automotive Group of Georgia, which ranks fifth on the publication’s top 150 U.S-based dealerships groups, sold the Durham, Greensboro and Fayetteville stores.

In Greensboro, the state’s third most populous city, six traded dealerships represent Acura, BMW, Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram, Honda, Nissan and Volvo. Included in that purchase were a collision shop and parking lot in Greensboro.

Dodge-Ram and Ford stores sold in Fayetteville, home of Army base Fort Bragg, and a Honda store traded in Durham, part of the Research Triangle and home of Duke University.

Hudson renamed the stores to reflect their locations. The acquisitions put the group’s total store count to more than 40 dealerships in Alabama, the Carolinas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio and Tennessee.

Automotive News said the transaction was Asbury’s second large sale of the year. It divested seven stores to meet brand store-count limits after its 2021 purchases of Larry H. Miller Dealerships and Stevinson Automotive.
