Some cars are more vulnerable to theft, and a new ranking shows which are the most so.

The 2020 to 2002 muscle models Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and HEMI are the most likely to be stolen, according to the latest Highway Loss Data Institute ranking.

The nonprofit group says theft claims for the Hellcat were a whopping 60 times higher than the average of all models for those years relative to how many were in operation, and 20 times higher for the HEMI.

The Charger’s fellow muscle car, the Challenger, is also high on the list, thanks to their power, and both have been in the top five most stolen vehicles since model year 2011, though HLDI said claims frequency has steadily increased.

“If you own a Hellcat, you better check your driveway,” said HLDI Senior Vice President Matt Moore.

Four Kia models appear in the 20 most-stolen models after thieves started targeting Kia and Hyundai models without immobilizer technology in a rash of thefts across the country.

Other frequently targeted models are luxury vehicles by BMW and others, but far less expensive models are also among the most vulnerable, such as the Honda Accord.

The HLDI examines claims per insured vehicle year to arrive at its ranking, providing risk per model. It says that contrasts with other rankings that use raw theft numbers dominated by models that are the most common.
