Multiple Brands Grab Top Safety Nods
One brand’s interior redesigns helped it get over the hump to snag an honor.

The 2025 Genesis GV70 is one of eight models across five brands winning the top IIHS safety rating.
Genesis
Genesis, Honda, Mini, Subaru and Toyota vehicles won safety accolades for new models after passing front and side crash tests.
The 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 and 2025 GV70, the 2025 Honda Civic sedan, 2024 Subaru Solterra and 2025 Toyota Camry received the nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ award.
The 2025 Honda Civic hatchback, 2025 Mini Countryman and 2024 Subaru WRX won the next-highest Top Safety Pick award.
The Genesis models passed muster for the top award after the luxury unit of South Korean automaker Hyundai incorporated redesigned rear seat belts and rear seats after this past April.
The newly bestowed rating awards bring to 38 the number of models that have achieved the safety standards for the group’s highest rating this year. Fifty-three have received the lower-tier rating of Top Safety Pick.
One 2024 model each in Buick, Chevrolet and Kia’s lines failed to qualify for IIHS awards for various reasons, the group said.
