Complainants say the braking loss happens during the act of braking without any advance indication, leading to increased stopping distance that could lead to collisions.
Some of the reports say they’d had the brakes repaired before the issue manifested, a portion of whom said the repairs were done in connection with a recall. NHTSA says in its preliminary investigation report, which indicates the problem stems from rear brake hose failure.
The federal agency’s probe aims to establish how many vehicles the issue involves.
