Ford Motor Co. reported nearly a 32% increase in U.S. sales in June, as it improved truck and SUV deliveries and rolled out an all-electric pickup.

Ford attributed the higher sales in June to strong demand for new vehicles, with about half of retail sales coming from previously placed orders. Electric vehicle sales rose 76.6% in June to 4,353, the company said. The company expects higher dealer stocks of its F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E to boost July sales.

Sales of Ford’s F-series rose by more than one-quarter in June, with the truck line outselling its nearest competitor by about 40,000 vehicles, according to Ford. Ford F Series sales made up almost 38% of the auto maker’s overall sales mix.

Ford brand SUV sales were up 35.3% in June, driven by Bronco and Explorer model sales, the company said.

U.S. auto-industry sales overall in June were down 11% in June, according to Ford. Continued difficulties replenishing dealership lots and record vehicle prices are pushing buyers out of the car market.

Ford’s U.S. sales were down 8% from 2021 levels for the first six months of 2022. Ford has sold about 916,000 vehicles in 2022, down from about 997,000 in the first half of 2021.

Wards Intelligence reports the auto maker’s U.S. sales for the first half of the year are still better than the 18% drop recorded industrywide for the same period.

General Motors reported a nearly 18% decrease in sales for the first half of the year. The automaker reported it couldn’t deliver around 100,000 vehicles in the second quarter because of supply-chain access to semiconductors and other key components.
