Want to Have More Productive Employees? Use These 6 Overlooked Strategies
Maximizing the productivity of your workforce is one of the essential aspects of building and maintaining a thriving company. With that in mind, many companies will look into building an assortment of initiatives to help with workplace performance, reports Inc.
While various sorts of initiatives are important and necessary in today's landscape of work, there are also numerous other tools that serve a vital role in building up your workplaces performance. Many of these tools are often overlooked.
With that said, when you're looking to make your employees more productive, don't overlook these six key strategies:
1. Provide access to natural light.
One of the easiest ways to help ensure your employee's fatigue levels are managed appropriately is to provide access to natural light. Natural light is critical because it helps with regulating your circadian rhythm.
In addition to helping with your sleep due to various hormones staying in their natural alignment, natural light is great for improving your overall well being and mood.
2. Create an environment designed for high performance.
The work environment to no surprise plays a huge role in the quality and quantity of each employees impact in the company. When you're looking to improve performance and productivity, it starts with minimizing distractions.
A Workplace Futures Team of Steel Case study released in 2014 surveyed 10,500 workers in Europe, Asia, and North America. This study discovered that employees are interrupted every 11 minutes.
We're living in the golden age of distractions which slices away at our ability to fall into deep work.
However, to help with this, you can establish rooms for collaboration where the noise won't distract others, reduce and even allow employees to turn off notifications during certain periods of the day so they can focus and fall into deep work.
3. Spice up your interior designing.
Nothing can dull the spirits quicker while leading you down a one-way tunnel into auto-pilot than being exposed to the same stimulus each day. When you're not stimulated, your senses dull along with your ability to stay alert.
This is a recipe for boredom, detachment, and work that doesn't reach its full potential.
To help with this, add various textures to the office to represent different personalities. Also look into using different color schemes in rooms to convey different moods and add specific indoor plants which may help increase productivity by 12 percent.
4. Adopt a single-tasking mentality instead of a multi-tasking mentality.
Multitasking drains your energy and spreads your focus leading to decent results across an array of things but nothing truly great and impactful. Also, switching back and forth between projects and tasks leads to less efficiency along with unnecessary stress and overwhelm.
On the contrary, single-tasking is ideal because all your energy is given to one task which increases the chances of truly reaching the potential of that particular project.
Dial it back and allow your employees to only focus on one big project at a time.
5. Integrate wellness into the DNA of the company.
While the importance of wellness isn't necessary overlooked in companies, it's the integration and merging of wellness into everything the company does that is overlooked.
Far too often, there's a separation of wellness from other company divisions and operations. To truly maximize your employee's productivity, culture, and engagement, make their well being one of the first considerations and factors when deciding on various initiatives and processes for implementation.
6. Create clear and open channels of communications.
Saying you have an open door policy is one thing, but to demonstrate that this isn't a generic run-of-the-mill lip service, it's essential to demonstrate this through actions.
Facilitate stories, exchanging ideas, and providing the support that your employees need base off of the feedback and responses is how you can back up your words through your actions. This is pivotal because now you're demonstrating that you're truly listening to your employees which builds up trust and loyalty.
