Ford tops the list of carmakers with vehicle safety recalls last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s tally.

The NHTSA indicates that Ford issued 67 recall notifications in 2022, affecting 8.6 million vehicles. The Detroit-area brand also led the list in 2021.

It was followed by Volkswagen, second on the list with 46 recalls, and Daimler Trucks North America, third with 42 recalls. Tesla, though 11th on the list with 20 recalls, came in second for the number of vehicles impacted: 3.8 million.

Carmakers are required by federal law to correct safety issues free of charge and must notify vehicle owners of recalls.
